The fire of the National Library (1904)

The Historical Archives of the University preserve extensive documentation relating to the fire, as it was an event that occurred in the University building.
The minutes of the meetings of the commissions established in the aftermath of the event and the correspondence of 1904 and subsequent years allow us to draw a picture of the numerous problems arising from the fire and the multiple initiatives implemented to remedy them.
Other sources indispensable for the reconstruction of what happened can be found in the historical archives of the National Library, the Municipality, the Intendenza di Finanza (now the Revenue Agency), in the State Archives of Turin and in the Central State Archives.
This research was carried out to support the exhibition Il patrimony rediscovered. One hundred years after the fire of the National University Library of Turin (Turin, National University Library, 16 December 2004 - 30 April 2005).
